BIG BODY
More people die in bed than anywhere else. For natural and unnatural reasons. We spend up to a third of our lives sleeping. Most often this happens in bed. From time to time we also have sex there.
Big body registers the bodily gestures, the materiality and temporality associated with the bed. The used mattresses, which make up the new site-specific work that visual artist Charlotte Thrane has created for KH7 Artspace, are folded, bent and squeezed into a confined area in the pre-industrial exhibition space. They reveal the imprints of their previous owners and their daily contact with the material.
The installation could be about the night you got your period and the blood stained the sheet. About the time you had sex and your body fluids seeped into the mattress and turned into transparent stains. Or about the tell-tale red wine stain on the bed that you only discovered as you were going to bed at night, and had already lied about your day.
Big body refers to the individual's body and to personal experience. To presence and intimacy. In a sculptural sense, the exhibition examines how we depend on each other. Whether we want to or not. This can be seen in the way the mattresses lean against each other. In their volume. In the way they fill the space. In their various properties. And mutual influences.

Der dør flere mennesker i sengen end noget andet sted. Af naturlige som af unaturlige årsager. Vi bruger op mod en tredjedel af vores liv på at sove. Oftest sker dét i sengen. Fra tid til anden dyrker vi også sex dér.
Store krop registrerer de kropslige handlinger, den materialitet og tidslighed, der forbinder sig til sengen. De fundne madrasser, som udgør det nye stedsspecifikke værk som billedkunstner Charlotte Thrane har skabt til KH7 Artspace, er foldede, bøjede og klemt inde på et afgrænset område i det industrielle udstillingsrum. De afslører aftrykkene fra deres tidligere ejere og deres daglige kontakt med materialet.
Udstillingen kunne handle om den nat, du fik din menstruation, og pletten blødte igennem lagenet. Om dengang I havde sex, og jeres kropsvæsker trængte ned i madrassen og blev til gennemsigtige pletter. Eller om den afslørende rødvinsplet på sengen, som du først opdagede, da du var på vej i seng om aftenen, og allerede havde løjet om din dag.
Store krop refererer til den enkeltes krop og til personlige erfaringer. Til nærvær og intimitet. I skulpturel forstand viser udstillingen, hvordan vi er afhængige af andre. Om vi ønsker det eller ej. Det ses i den måde, madrasserne læner sig op ad hinanden på. I deres volumen. På den måde, de fylder i rummet. I deres forskellige egenskaber. Og gensidige påvirkninger.
